When I was younger, I thought it was funny how Mum always wanted to be my friend.  I used to say “No Mum, you’re not my friend, you’re my Mum remember”. And she would say “Yes, but I’m your friend too…we can be friends as well”.  And I soon realised what she meant.  She was both a fun-loving, energetic, giggling friend to me and an amazingly generous and compassionate mother.
